Re: The transfer deadline day thread - Albian Ajeti signed
Given our Budget of £30m plus sales I think we have done okay this window. We got shot of players that were past their best and on the face of it have a squad with more potential
But of course that needs fulfilling.

Like others have commented on to me it seems strange that a cdm was not a priority and I am still wondering what the manager knows that we don't. But I guess we will have to trust him, elsewhere his judgement seems sound. Although a new contract for Athur was a bit surprising. Maybe the coaching staff think he can be improved. Blimmey what an old fashioed idea where did that come from! As for those that think we should have got another fullback. Would you have been happy to see Ben Johnson out on loan? As it stands there is every chance he will get a game on either flank and will replace Zab before the end of the season

Hopefully fighting relegation or avoiding it is now a thing of the past and we can continue to build a team rather than look at quick fixes all the time. That will enable us to attract better players and earn more prize money and improve each year. We won't have a balanced all round team this year but next year we will have another clear out of the dead wood and replace them with quality players like this window. Onward and upwards I think.

Incidentally we are currently 9th in the table for years spent in PL and 10th in points gained (City the team who have spent less time but have more points).

Re: The transfer deadline day thread - Albian Ajeti signed
He played very little left back last year and even less than half the time in Championship.

(I dont think they played with fullbacks a lot of the time, from my memory.)

Maybe a good manager can make him one, like Masuaku.

Babel the striker displaced the left back?

How the fuck nobody else thought he was worth a punt at that money is beyond me.

ive got pals who support fulham and they're laughing at spurs for the fee. Said Babel displaced him and looked much better

Tottenham get away with that next spend because everyone else is stupid and they do the obvious. Buying Sessignon for that money is obvious. They'll make a 100 million on him. How the fuck nobody else thought he was worth a punt at that money is beyond me.

Interesting stats on net spend over last five years (not including this window)

https://gmsrp.cachefly.net/images/19/02/15/85e71c0c3dc4a67ef244a3d558912992/690.jpg

We currently sit 7th, only team outside the top 6 above us is Everton. Tottenham the interesting outliner sitting in 19th, showing that big spending is not the only way to success, if you invest in really high quality young players who big resale.

Re: The transfer deadline day thread - Albian Ajeti signed
hopefully we wont need to dwell on the CDM bit and Rice stays in form and injury free

if noble plays like he did last 10 games when called upon then we be just fine

decent window

5 or 6 players now that really get you off your seat when in years gone by that was a couple in the starting 11 if you lucky

I think the young part is great, we didn't bring in anyone who is supposed to start or in an outfield position that is older than Halller who is still just 25.

I think that we have improved our starting eleven and sensibly brought younger blood into the squad that has good potential.

Very good transfer window in my opinion. We've come a long way from the days of Calleri.

I'm resigned to the fact that MP isn't particularly interested in FB's and is happy playing wing backs for the season, hoping to enjoy the ride

actually agree with that, despite the vulnerabilities that exist within the squad.

That said, its all relative - we're not doing anything that anyone else isn't, hasn't or can't do. We shouldn't be worrying about relegation, so we can look forward to another thrilling season of finishing somewhere between 7th & 15th, depending on luck and injuries.
Still, we can live in hope that the fat cunt at Chelsea is a disaster i suppose.

If these new boys work out well, you have to say it's been at the very least a decent summer window.

I totally agree that it's refreshing to see us buying young hungry players who have been showing good form and have potential to grow, instead of the likes of Cahill, Llorente etc.

We've just had a TERRIBLE window because of the size of the stadium...there's some fucking logic for you.

9th in net spending after what amounts to a fine tuning exercise, after a spending spree for 2018/9. We break our transfer record twice in 2 years, and the common view seems to be we were 1/2 players of 9/10. According to El Pell, it might be 1 and it might be a CDM.

We also get rid of a complete cunt. Still the stadium's fault?

Rossal 11:27 Fri Aug 9
Re: The transfer deadline day thread - Albian Ajeti signed
I was listening to the West Ham way podcast on way home last night and Dave Walker made a good point, went along the lines of....

"When you look at our squad at the moment, its the strongest in years....we have 2 players for every position and the most quality on the bench we've ever had. When you look at the signings coming in, all are young players with the potential to improve on the pitch and their value off it. All of this has been done this summer also without the club spending silly or putting us at risk financially. Most of our squad are now worth more or certainly have the potential to be worth more than what we paid for them. The owners deserve credit for this and for delivering some of the players we now have in the squad. "

Now I hate the owners as much as the next man, but when you listen to that I tend to agree with him. Look at our squad at the moment, we have alot to be excited for and their is potential for us to get better and better on the pitch. The feel good factor should be high at the moment. The stadium still needs work of course, but on the pitch their is cause for optimism.

We had a 7/10 Transfer window, Our 'outs' were sensible and most of our INs were too, DM and a FB away from a 9/10

Re: The transfer deadline day thread - Albian Ajeti signed
I’d say we are 1 player away from a great transfer window.
Odd that the #1 position most supporters would say we needed to fill never got filled.

Hopefully an exciting season ahead.
I’d say 63 points is the benchmark.
